Mercedes C63 AMG facelift

Mercedes C63 AMG faceliftThis is the new 2011 Mercedes C63 AMG, a facelifted version of the three-pointed star’s hot rod family saloon.
So, more power? And the new twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8, right?

Nope. The power and torque outputs remain unchanged, because under the bonnet is still the same 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 as before. Peak power is 451bhp at 6800rpm, and there’s 443lb ft at 5000rpm, too. Or you can opt for the AMG Performance pack, which slots in the forged pistons, conrods and crankshaft from the SLS supercar, and ups the figure to 480bhp. Red brake calipers and a part-Alcantara wheel are included in the Performance pack, which Merc claims over 30% of C63 customers stump up the extra cash for.

The most significant change is the adoption of Mercedes’ AMG Speedshift MCT gearbox – as found in the CLS63, SL63, etc. There’s no torque convertor, but a ‘wet start-off clutch’, which means more efficient and direct responses. Its default setting is the planet-friendly Controlled Efficiency mode, and together with a new power steering pump, helps drop the saloon’s fuel consumption and CO2 figures from 21.1mpg and 312g/km to 23.5mpg and 280g/km, and the estate’s from 20.8 and 316g/km to 23mpg and 288g/km. And with the new ‘box comes AMG’s Drive Unit with a dial for the gearbox settings.

Other tweaks include a revised AMG bodykit, tweaked suspension, a ‘powerdome’ aluminium bonnet (pictures of the revised C63 AMG sporting a standard C-class bonnet leaked out onto the world wide web last month), the new-look front and rear lights from the recently facelifted regular C-class, the latest round of Mercedes driver assistance and telematics tech, improved cabin materials, plus the obligatory LED daytime running lights and the steering wheel from the CLS63 AMG.

UK sales start in July 2011, and the C63 AMG saloon should cost around £55k – a proper locking differential remains a must-have option.

Mercedes SLK

Mercedes SLK
This is the new Mercedes SLK, the third-generation version of Merc’s folding metal roof-equipped roadster. Rather than forcing the new Mercedes SLK to share the limelight with the facelifted C-class at the 2011 Detroit motor show, Merc has revealed the all-new SLK a few days after this year’s NAIAS started.
Tell me all about the new Mercedes SLK please

Let’s start with the looks, and this latest SLK has adopted the latest Mercedes DNA from the CLS and SLS. The SLS has influenced the interior design, and the SLK adopts the four circular air vents and horizontal spar across the dash from the company’s supercar. To reduce the kilo count and improve the weight distribution, the bonnet and front wings are made from aluminium.

The folding metal roof remains a two-piece affair, but those that wish to see the sun in the sky without the wind in their hair can spec the new Magic Sky Control panel. Tick the requisite box and the panel in the roof flicks from opaque to transparent in seconds. And in you do lower the metal hood then there is a new Airguide wind deflector, with plastic discs set behind the roll bars that rotate into place.
What about the engines in the new Mercedes SLK?

There is a choice of three petrol engines from launch, which all feature stop/start systems and direct-injection technology. Both the entry-level SLK 200 and the mid-range SLK 250 are powered by a 1.8-litre four-pot, with the former offered in 181bhp/7.0sec 0-62mph/147mph/46.3mpg guise, and the latter coming with 201bhp/6.6sec 0-62mph/150mph/45.5mpg. Until an AMG variant arrives, the range-topper is Merc’s latest generation 3.5-litre V6, good for 302bhp/5.6sec 0-62mph/155mph/39.7mpg – and that last figure means the new SLK 350 is 25% more economical than before.

Both the V6 and the higher-power four-cylinder engine come with Mercedes’ seven-speed 7G-Tronic auto as standard, while the SLK 200 comes with a six-speed manual as standard but can be optioned with the automatic ‘box.
Anything else I should know?

Keen drivers can pick Merc’s sports suspension option, and the keenest can spec the Dynamic Handling pack which adds adjustable dampers, quicker steering and the new Torque Vectoring Brakes system, which individually brakes the inside rear wheel in a corner to aid agility.

UK sales start in June 2011, and prices and full specifications will be announced in the near future.

Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept With BCI System

The Mercedes Benz Cyborg Sensation Vehicle, or C.S.V., is a concept car imagined by Chinese designer Derek Chik Kin Ng. The C.S.V. is an off-road capable, two-seater supercar, Inspired by the Mercedes F400 concept, designed back in 2001, is targeted to young adventurous professionals in 2040.
Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept
Its pretty obvious, (thanks Captain Oblivious) what the core concept of this vehicle is just by name. Technology and organics are bound to merge sooner or later. Imagine driving just by thinking. When you sit in the drivers seat, your though patterns are sent to the vehicle, thus becoming an extension of your body. Theres no need for analog controls.
Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept
Mercedes F400 concept has served as the inspiration when creating this concept car of the future. It foreshadows a fully integrated driver interface, providing “driving…by thinking”.
Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept
The interesting part about this Mercedes Benz concept is that it has no steering wheel, no pedals, but this vehicle can be controlled with the power of mind instead. It uses a system named Brain Computer Interface (BCI), which creates a connection between the car and its driver, through a specially-designed helmet.
Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept
This way, the driver’s brain impulses are gathered by the helmet and transferred to the car, which responds appropriately. Although this principle may sound plausible in the future, its implementation on cars, could prove to be quite a difficult task.
Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept
The implications for such technologies means someday well know how to interpret, map out, and respond to human neural patterns. If you can put that thought aside for a second, lets focus on the design.
Mercedes Supercar C.S.V Concept
Theres a lot of F400 in there but the designer wanted to give the vehicle an organic flavor, hence the muscle fibers flanking each side, neatly tucking into a hidden skeletal system. The result is a design that takes Mercedes Benz DNA and evolves it into an organic object mimicking its pilot.

Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz Concept Car Production year theoretical 2025

Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car

Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car Production year theoretical 2025. Brilliant and outstanding is what every car lover will exclaim when will see this BlitzenBenz concept car. The Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept was created by George Yoo, a designer at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development in Carlsbad, California. The BlitzenBenz was developed during his final year at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car

Created by George Yoo as a futuristic racing vehicle, BlitzenBenz concept is derived from two different sources. And let me tell you the roots of its design are in the past. The main inspiration behind the idea is from original Blitzen-Benz from 1909 that had a long tubular shape and rear cab positioning. On the other, Alex Erlandson work of creating sculptures from trees that were grown into certain shapes/patterns influenced Yoo considerably to contemplate what if automotive parts were to be grown and tamed to hold certain shapes.
Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car

Obviously the technology is not quite there yet to create such a vehicle, but the current research into nanotechnology is paving the way for intelligent and adaptable components which can be grown instead of manufactured. It's an incredibly interesting prospect which would completely alter the way cars are built, maintained, upgraded and recycled.
Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car

The exterior design is a base for the organic structure and the individual wheel pods are there to sense as to when the inside electric motors need to be cooled down. When the cooling will be required, these structures will open up in the same way as the plants do to receive the vital sunlight.
Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car

To run this Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz, there is an advanced next-generation Hygenius hybrid hydrogen engine and four in-wheel electric motors. The inspiration for the blue lightening system came from bioluminescent capabilities of deep sea creatures. Also, a hydrogen storage tank is just below the cockpit and the fuel level is shown in a small window.
Mercedes-Benz BlitzenBenz concept car

Though, woefully, there is no technology to make this vehicle as such, but the progressing research into nanotechnology will surely open the way for components that can be grown than manufactured, changing the way cars will be built or maintained in future.
