Aston Martin V8 Vantage S

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S
Good news for fans of Aston Martin's V8 Vantage, and especially those who found it a touch slow: the new, musclier V8 Vantage S.

The Aston Martin Vantage S is a tweaked-up version of the regular Vantage, and a full production model. It's the fastest Vantage yet!
So what do you get on the 2011 Vantage S?

The biggest change is under the bonnet. The 4.7-litre V8 now has a stouter 430bhp, which makes it 20bhp more powerful than the Vantage N24 and 30bhp up on the N400 special editions.

There's 361lb ft of twist too. The Vantage S comes with the all-new Sportshift II seven-speed automated manual transmission, specifically designed for the Vantage S. Its short ratios are claimed to allow for slingshot acceleration through the gears and Gaydon claims a 20% increase in shift speed.

It should handle more sharply, too. There's a quicker steering rack (15:1 compared to 17:1 on the regular Vantage), while the brakes are now six-piston grabbers up front. New springs, dampers and Bridgestone tyres are fitted and ESP system recalibrated. It sounds like a thorough working over.
Does the Vantage S look much different?

The bodywork has seen a few tweaks to mark out you're in the souped-up Vantage: there's a carbonfibre front bumper complete with larger air intake feeding the engine and brakes. New 19-inch V-spoke wheels are fitted as standard, but there is an optional 10-spoke light weight wheel option too.

Much of the style comes from the V12 Vantage. The side sills are claimed to widen the car's stance, while the rear hasn't been left behind with a new bumper assembly.
Did the Aston GT4 racer have any influence over the Vantage S?

The Vantage S bridges the gap between the road and race car, according to Aston, which claims the new road car is heavily influenced by the the 2011 Vantage GT4 racer.

The Vantage V8 S comes as a coupe and roadster and is available to order now.

Aston Martin Cygnet

Aston Martin Cygnet
This is the new 2011 Aston Martin Cygnet. No concept car this - here's Aston's official production supermini. The Cygnet will be the smallest Aston Martin ever at just 3m long.

Little has changed since the idea was first mooted in 2009 as a concept car. Aston Martin is importing factory-ready Toyota iQs from Japan and applying a wholly cosmetic face pack at the Gaydon HQ.

Just one Aston Martin Cygnet will be sold: the 1.3-litre petrol four-cylinder. Customers will be able to personalise it every which way, although the wilder and more luxurious options will surely send the price spiralling to scary territory north of £40k.
I beg your pardon? How much will Aston Martin's supermini cost?

The base Aston Cygnet will be priced at £30,000. That is roughly three times the cost of the donor Toyota iQ, but Aston will reskin the nose and rump, and layer on a whole new interior feel, as you can see from these first official photographs.

It's worth noting that our earlier news stories on the Cygnet speculated the price would be nearer £20,000. What price luxury? Every Cygnet will be hand-finished in Gaydon with 'an almost unlimited palette of materials, colours and textures.' No two Aston superminis will be identical.

Although Aston Martin isn't announcing full specs until later this autumn, it's safe to assume the figures will be almost identical to the Toyota iQ 1.3 starting point. Aston is making no engineering changes at all. So that means a 1.3-litre four-pot developing 97bhp and 92lb ft. CO2 stands at 113g/km, average fuel economy 59mpg. It will however be the slowest Aston Martin ever, at 106mph flat and 11.8sec in the 0-62mph sprint (explaining why Aston shunned the cleaner, 99g/km 1.0 engine).
Is the Aston Martin Cygnet a CO2 cheat?

Well, there's no denying a humble supermini will help offset all those V8 and V12 supercars. As a lowly independent, Aston Martin has no group efficiencies to fall back upon and selling a stash of £30k superminis could go a long way to lowering its fleet average CO2 emissions.

You'll see from our earlier blogs (see related articles, left), that the Cygnet has already attracted some ire on these pages. But if it makes good business sense, will we allow Aston Martin some leeway?

'It is time to think differently,' says Ulrich Bez, Aston's German CEO. 'Whatever we do, we do right. If we do performance, we do performance; we don't downsize or compromise our sports cars. The Cygnet needs to satisfy the demands of emissions and space. It is a car without compromise, like every other Aston Martin. Our customers need a small car for urban and city use, and they want the right tools for the right job.'

The Aston Martin Cygnet goes on sale in late spring 2011. Existing Aston customers will be offered the car first, with general sales following.

Aston Martin Virage

Aston Martin Virage
This is the new Aston Martin Virage, a V12-engined GT to sit halfway between the DB9 and the DBS. It will be officially unveiled to the public, along with the Aston Martin Vantage S, at the 2011 Geneva motor show next week.
The Aston Martin Virage, eh? How does it differ from the DB9 and DBS?

Numbers are easy to understand, so let’s start with the figures produced by the 6.0-litre V12 shared between the trio: the DB9 has 470bhp and 442lb ft, the DBS 510bhp and 420lb ft, and the Virage sits neatly between the two with 490bhp and 420lb ft. 0-62mph? 4.8 seconds for the DB9, 4.3 for the DBS, and 4.6 for the new Virage.

There’s no word yet on price, but expect the Virage coupe to cost around £150k and the convertible version to be ten grand more – a Touchtronic-equipped DB9 will set you back £128k (the Volante is £137k) and the hard- and soft-top versions of an automatic DBS are £179k and £188k respectively.
Forget the numbers – what’s special about the new Aston Martin Virage?

It’s subtle, but according to Aston the ‘Virage capitalises on the technology from the DBS and unites it with the comfort and refinement found in the DB9 and Rapide’. Expect something suitably more sporting than the recently revised DB9 but not quite as agile as the DBS; the Virage does without that car’s carbon body panels, so the coupe is 90kg heavier than the DBS, and the drop-top Volante version is 80kg more. But Aston is also talking about Rapide-matching levels of continent crossing, thanks a whole host of NVH tweaks.

Aston’s Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission is standard, but a Sport button on the dash sharpens the throttle response, quickens the shifts and makes sure the ‘box doesn’t upshift even when you’re banging off the rev limiter. There’s a new Adaptive Damping System (ADS) too, with Normal and Sport modes, but with five settings within each mode that car constantly switches between to adapt to different conditions. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, and the Virage features the same size Pirelli P Zero tyres as the DBS.
What about the visual tweaks?

There’s a new grille, which is apparently One-77 inspired, a new clean-cut front bumper, and a new take on Aston’s side strake with 6 LEDs. Tweaked sills and a new rear bumper round off the external changes.

Inside there’s full leather trim (complete with piping) and a very welcome addition, in the form of a new sat-nav system developed with Garmin, which replaces the antiquated, Volvo-derived unit. Alas, the dash still features a plethora of tiny and impossible to use buttons.

The Virage is avaialbe to order now and customer deliveries commence in May 2010.

2010 Aston Martin DBS Edo Competition Luxurious Sports Car

Edo Competition Aston Martin DBS is a result of a modification carried out by Edo Competition Motorsport for the 12-cylinder Aston Martin that already produces 517 horsepower and has a top speed of more than 300 km/h (186 mph). Improving and underlining the elegance and beauty of this British triumph and strengthening its sporting character was the goal declared by Edo competition.
2010 Aston Martin DBS Edo Competition
The first step taken by Edo Competition was improving the power output. The DBS’s engine control unit was modified via software recalibration, then supported by a new high performance exhaust system, and was fitted with special catalytic converters and high flow air filters. As a result, the DBS’s power output was increased from 517 hp and 570 Nm (420 ft-lb) to 550 hp and 600 Nm (442 ft-lb), an enough power to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).
The high performance exhaust system, which was specially designed for the DBS, incorporates butterfly valves allowing it to produce a fantastically rich and sonorous sound. They further help increase the British luxury sports car coupe`s power and torque output. The exhaust comes with a programmable control system that monitors backpressure inside the exhaust and opens the 70 mm butterfly valves when a pre-determined level of backpressure is exceeded.
The unique advantage of this system is that it provides good torque at low engine speeds without sacrificing top end horsepower. The exhaust system is made from stainless steel and the chromed exhaust tips accentuate the elegant design. The driver can adjust the sound of the DBS at any time using a remote control.
Dealing with the levels of grip, Edo competition offers a new wheel design, a set of 21 inch racing wheels. The three-piece wheels come with stainless steel outer rims and the customer can choose the stock tire dimensions
Further, Edo competition has developed a new high performance brake system, 405 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads for the front and 380 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads for the rear, both including braided stainless steel brake lines.
As with all edo competition models, we set no limit to our customers` imaginations. Special interiors or lavish leather upholstery, individual requests are accommodated and executed with quality.
The modifications of this Edo competition Aston Martin DBS are all carried out at Edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen, Germany.

There's not much we'd change about the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, as it's compact, stylish and thoroughly addictive already. But that hasn't stopped the British marque from launching a series of updates and upgrades. The latest came in July with the launch of the N420 edition coupe, a race-car-for-the-street variant inspired by the company's motorsports prowess at the Nurburgring. At the time, Aston announced that the N420 – itself the successor to the earlier N400 – would be available in both coupe and convertible bodystyles, but it has only now released the drop-top model ahead of its debut later this week at the Paris Motor Show.

Like the N420 coupe, the roadster keeps the same 420-horsepower V8 engine and the optional Sport Pack suspension as standard, and upgrades with a sport exhaust system, new wheels, aero package and reduced weight as compared to the standard model. Prices should come in around the $145k mark, available with either a six-speed manual or Sportshift automatic.

2010 Aston Martin Sports Car Rapide Nurburgring Race Car

The Aston Martin Rapide Nurburgring race car has been unveiled today and the company says it will make its debut in the 24-Hour event that will take place on 15/16 May 2010. Previously, Aston Martin has competed in the Nurburgring 24-Hour race with the V8 Vantage and the V12 Vantage. for this year, the British brand goes four-door.
Aston Martin Rapide
For all those who thought Aston Martin had somehow gone soft by offering a four-door saloon, the famed British marque plans to prove the new Rapide is no slouch by entering it in the 38th ADAC Nurburgring 24-hour race on May 15-16. Piloting the vehicle win the grueling race will be none other than Aston Martin’s CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez, who at age 66 can still give the young guns a run for their money. Aston, with Bez at the wheel, has won top honors in the race’s production-based SP8 category for the past two years with versions of the Vantage coupe.
The Aston Martin Rapide Nurburgring will been entered in the race as company's Chief Executive, Dr Ulrich Bez considers this event represents the ultimate durability test for any sports car.
The Aston Martin Rapide Nurburgring is extremely close to the production car. The only differences between the Aston Martin Rapide Nurburgring and the production model include the removal of interior trim to save weight, re-tuned suspension and slick tires.
PRESS RELEASE:
Aston Martin Rapide to contest gruelling Nürburgring 24-hour Race
Gaydon, Warwickshire 6 April 2010. Aston Martin will return to the starting grid of the legendary Nordschleife circuit for the fifth consecutive year at the 38th ADAC Nürburgring 24-hour race on 15/16 May 2010 with the marque's new four-door sports car; the Rapide.
Further underlining the sporting credentials of Aston Martin's latest model, the Rapide will compete in the demanding 24-hour race - as has been the case with other recent Aston Martin road cars, the V8 Vantage and V12 Vantage. The Rapide will compete in near-standard specification apart from mandatory changes required to compete in this most demanding of endurance races and will be driven by a team of engineers from the company's Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire, England.
Aston Martin Chief Executive, Dr Ulrich Bez who will lead the Rapide driver team, explained: "This race represents the ultimate final engineering durability test for any sports car - it subjects the car to the toughest possible assessment under public scrutiny. "The Rapide has the capability to carry four people in comfort but first and foremost it is a sports car and we will subject it to the same tests we would our other sports cars. We already have a proven track record at the Nürburgring racing our road cars with limited modification and in recent years we have enjoyed success in winning the SP8 class both in 2008 and 2009."
The Rapide race car will be close to production standard with only essential race safety modifications, interior trim removed to reduce weight, re-tuned suspension and will run on slick tyres designed for track use. The Aston Martin Rapide encapsulates the values of Aston Martin in pure four-door sports car form with an unrivalled combination of performance, comfort, craftsmanship and exceptionally elegant design. Since the Rapide's original premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009 the car has gone on to win the widespread approval of customers and media commentators alike, prompting strong global demand for the car. Deliveries of the Rapide commence later this month through Aston Martin's 125-strong global dealership network.
The Rapide race car will be joined by a V12 Vantage - again modified only slightly for racing - which in 2009 swept to a class win on its competitive race debut. The near production standard V12 Vantage - which finished in 21st place overall last year - saw off competition from a field of largely specialist race cars in the SP8 class to claim an impressive debut win.
Further details on the V12 Vantage and the full driver line-ups for both Aston Martin entries plus details on a number of customer teams competing in the race will follow in the coming weeks.
The 38th ADAC Nürburgring 24 hour race will take place on 15/16 May 2010.

1979 Aston Martin V8 Oscar India - Classic Car For Sale (Click Here)

Description:
Announced in April 1972, the AM V8 is an extensively modified version of the DBS V8 which was announced in September 1969. Externally, the grill was entirely new, no longer sweeping across the complete front but now tailored between the headlamps reminiscent of the earlier six cylinder models such as the DB3S. The engine, was by then the well tried and tested all alloy V8 designed by Tadek Marek that had made it's first appearance in January 1967 at the Racing Car Show in London and raced by Lola in their Type 70 Mk III GT. The AM V8 series III was introduced in London in August 1973. The important mechanical difference was the replacement of the Bosch fuel injection system by four twin-choke down draught Weber carburettors. The instrument layout was altered, as were the heating controls.
Towards the end of 1976, the 'S' specification was introduced in what appears to be a rolling production line change; verification is by the letter s at the end of both the chassis and engine numbers. The 'S' stands for stage one tune, and while the alterations may be subtle, some think that the brief 20 month production run of this model marks the high point of V8 design. 1978 was an exciting year for Aston Martin and their owners. In June the Volante was unveiled and a few months later the V8 series IV or "Oscar India" (October Introduction) became available. The revised specification of the series IV included a change in shock absorber settings, leather head lining, burr walnut dash board and door cappings, a discreet integral rear spoiler, carburettor bonnet bulge with the dummy air intake now closed at the front and extensive improvements to the standard air conditioning.

Vehicle History: The service folder that comes with this lovely Oscar India allows first identification of ownership through the first service invoice on file. From marque specialist, R. S. Williams Ltd., it identifies the owner as a Mr Millington of Norbury, London SW16. The car underwent a pre-sale service with RS Williams before moving to its new owner, Graham Green. Service allegiance moved at the same time to Ian Mason where the car was regularly serviced over an ownership covering some 14,000 miles over a period of 10 years. The car then passed to classic car dealers, Hunters in Maidstone, who instigated a thorough overhaul of the bodywork prior to its sale to the current owner. The service history and available MOT certificates would tend to confirm the mileage and the car is presented in very good condition.

Summary: Aston Martin V8's, especially Oscar Indias, are enjoying a vibrant marketplace and improving values. There are only a small number of cars on the market and this represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire a classic Aston Martin that will prove enjoyable and easy to use and will provide the purchaser a sound investment in the current market.
